A handcrafted statement side table created from a beautifully figured cedar wood slice, showcasing flowing natural grain, organic live edges and handcrafted hardwood bow tie details. Finished with natural oils and mounted on black steel hairpin legs, each piece is completely unique.
Each of these handcrafted side tables began as a carefully selected cedar wood slice, chosen for its extraordinary flowing grain patterns, natural character and organic shape.
Rather than cutting the timber into uniform lines, the natural contours of the wood have been preserved to celebrate the unique story held within every growth ring, split and curve. The warm golden and reddish tones running through the cedar create an almost topographical appearance, making each table feel as much like a sculptural piece as functional furniture.
Natural splits within the timber have been stabilised using handcrafted hardwood bow tie inserts — a traditional woodworking technique designed not only to strengthen the timber but to become part of the visual character of the piece itself. Fine cracks and voids have been carefully filled in black resin to subtly highlight the natural imperfections rather than hide them.
Each surface has been extensively sanded by hand through multiple stages to achieve an exceptionally smooth tactile finish while still retaining the natural feel and texture of real wood. The tables are then finished with natural oils to enhance the depth, warmth and movement within the grain without creating an artificial plastic coating.
Mounted on black steel hairpin legs, the combination of soft flowing timber and industrial steel creates a balance between natural organic design and contemporary modern styling.
