A completely one-of-a-kind piece, handcrafted from a small supply of Australian camphor wood with a very personal story behind it.
I brought this timber back from Australia after visiting my daughter, and the small amount I had is now completely used. This particular clock and bud vase therefore cannot be recreated — the piece shown in the photographs is the exact piece you will receive.
Camphor is a wonderfully characterful hardwood. Its flowing grain moves through warm golden and deep brown tones, creating a natural pattern that becomes part of the design. The timber also retains the subtle natural aroma for which camphor wood is known.
The design combines a recessed circular clock face with a removable glass test-tube bud vase, creating something that is both practical and sculptural. Add a single fresh stem or dried flower, or simply leave the vase empty and allow the timber itself to take centre stage.
Black hands contrast beautifully against the grain, while the silent-sweep quartz movement keeps time without the distraction of a ticking sound.
Carefully shaped, sanded and finished by hand in my Gloucestershire workshop, this is a small piece with a rather special journey behind it — Australian timber, brought home and transformed into something completely unique.
