Ambrosia Maple Live Edge Side Table – One of a Kind

The extraordinary natural markings of ambrosia maple are the real star of these one-of-a-kind side tables.

Each table has been handcrafted from a substantial slice of ambrosia maple, retaining the organic outline of the timber and the remarkable patterns running through its surface. Dark streaks, tonal variations and irregular markings radiate through the grain, creating patterns that could never be artificially reproduced.

What Makes Ambrosia Maple So Special?

Despite its name, ambrosia maple isn't a separate species of maple. Its extraordinary markings are created naturally when tiny ambrosia beetles bore into the tree and introduce fungi into the timber.

As the tree responds, distinctive streaks and areas of colour develop around the beetles' tiny galleries. The result is the dramatic patterning you see across these table tops — sometimes appearing as dark lines, feathering or almost landscape-like shapes within the grain.

Rather than being considered flaws, these natural markings are what make ambrosia maple so sought after. Every piece tells the story of the tree it came from, and no two patterns can ever be repeated.

Two tables are available. They are similar in size and share the same design, but the grain and markings within each piece of timber are completely individual. Choose Table A or Table B depending on which natural pattern speaks to you.

The tops have been carefully sanded and hand-finished to enhance the colour, grain and character of the maple without disguising the features that make the timber so distinctive.

Black metal hairpin legs provide a simple contemporary contrast, keeping the design visually light and allowing the natural timber top to remain the focus.

Perfect beside a sofa or armchair, as an occasional table, or simply as a statement piece of natural wood furniture.

Individually handcrafted and finished in my Gloucestershire workshop, no two tables will ever be exactly alike.

Natural grain, colour variation, markings, small cracks and other characteristics are part of the timber and are intentionally retained as features of each piece.

Care

Wipe with a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth and dry immediately.

Avoid placing very hot or wet items directly onto the timber and avoid prolonged exposure to strong direct sunlight or excessive moisture.
